I thought this turned out very well. Any thoughts...how would you have improved this shot? Thanks for looking!

Hey! They look familiar!
Face tones seem a bit too bright to me and the sharpening is a little too sharp -- in the hair/sweater, etc. It's also a cute pose, but he's so far to the edge on it.
Try recomposing/cropping the shot. They are in dark clothes with a dark background. The lighter areas of interest seem to be running landscape, so crop that way, getting a little more of the man in the shot.
The light area is drawing my sight side-to-side and I'm bumping against the narrow width too quickly with a lot of dark dead space high and low.
My $0.02. Ultimately, it's your decision since you're the artist.

Hope you don't mind honesty...
Her makeup is overdone, especially around the eyes. Also her hair looks plastic, quite possibly from oversharpening. Her smile also looks forced.
The whole thing is VERY high contrast, which is cool if that's what you/they are going for, but is generally not percieved to be a "pleasing" picture (whatever 'pleasing' means).
I actually rather like the composition... I think it keeps the focus on her, which is probably a good thing. Nobody wants to look at us ugly guys, anyway. :)
Hey, if you save up everyone's 2 cents, you could buy yourself a cup of coffee! :)

Thank you for your input! I posted a different size of the photo on here because the first one was much too large!! The resized image does not seem as sharp and harsh. The point was to have her be the main focus and not him, which is why he is so far left. However, thank you! |

If that is the case, then you should recrop. Since you said it was a couple photo, I thought the couple was focus. I was originally thinking this would look better if you put her as the main focus and crop off half his head (since you don't have him all anyway).
Don't forget the rule of thirds when trying to establish the area of interest.

Hi Crystal
On this image ... the I see some of the same issues as the last... the contrast is too high. you are loosing detail in the dark areas ... they are going all the way to black. Too much sharpening is being used for my taste... It give it the overprocessed look.
The composition is great ... love the shot ... remember LIGHT TOUCH goes a long way on the post.
