Hey all, I don't post much but I visit and learn from you guys all the time! I've been working on my black and white conversion using the channel mixer--among other things. Please give me your comments on the latest shot I've taken (which I was excited to use my new 430 EX on--i bounced it off the ceiling btw).

Please leave your comments in this thread (you can leave comments on the site but if you do make sure you paste them here so I know who/where they are coming from). Comment on the picture as a whole if you will, not just on the b/w conversion, though I'm looking for comments on that also.

PHOTO HERE

Thank you guys/girls so much!!!!

I really like the human, but the dog is way to dark. When I first saw the picture I only saw the paws and I was like, why aren't they showing the dog. LOL

If the dog is really THAT dark on your monitor, it probably needs to be calibrated. I can see the dog just fine on mine.

That's funny. After seeing the comment about the dog, paws, and being too dark, I was looking for a different photo than the one the OP linked to. Realized that this IS the photo...FYI - dog is fine.

I like the composition of the image, something about the eyes of the girl seems off. The left one (her right) looks like it has redeye (a bit blurry), the right one (her left) is distracting with the glare on the glass lens. I'd clone the glare out and while you have the clone brush working...get the lint off her back. ;^)

Sorry about that, you guys are probably right. I am not at home right now so I am not on my monitor (obviously).

I think your conversion to b/w is very good. I'm not crazy about the girl's hand position as it looks as if she is holding the dog by the neck. Otherwise, nice shot.

Dog is fine on my monitor.

That girl looks so much like my sister, right down to the glasses, that I was almost going to ask you how the heck you got a picture of my sister.

Can I bump this hoping to get some comments? I really wasn't looking for the "the dog is fine on my screen" version.

The conversion looks pretty good. I think a little contrast would help it. I'm not liking the pose. It doesn't do your girls justice. It looks rather awkward to be honest. Also, the glare on the glasses is distracting. Sorry. Not sure if you wanted a full critique or just b/w conversion input. If she is happy with the photo, it doesn't matter a "hoot" what I think. :)

maybe you could post a link to the color version so we have something to go by? Although I'm no expert at B/W conversion I'm sure others will have ideas for you :0)

I think the conversion to b&w looks good, you've kept a good range there. On the shot itself, I like the composition, interesting angle.

Not so sure about including the dog in the shot though! - The girl holds my attention enough. But if you have to have the dog there, it's a pity he's not looking at the camera.

Ok first and foremost, I really like this shot. At first glance I thought, wow, thats a really nice photo. But..after I saw how persistent you were with getting comments I looked to see if I could find something wrong. Two things, 1 I can see two veins starting to pop up on the subject forehead, which hints towards overposed to me. And 2, the dog looks a bit uncomfortable with a look on his face that says will somebody get this broad off me please. LOL. I am not an incredible critic, just my thoughts and again, I want to say that overall I really like this photo. Very nice. If it was my sister, my niece, or my dog, or wife, or anything like that I would probably have it framed and on my wall. Hope it helps. TY for sharing.
