Just wanted to share a tradition in our house that we have done for over 25 years. Each year when we get a tree we save the end that is sawed off at the tree farm. We date it and string them for decorations. We look back at them and show the kids thier first Christmas tree, and each we have a nice reminder of each Christmas that we have shared. What unusual traditions do you have?

That is so sweet! A WONDERFUL idea! You should write that into a magazine or something as Christmas Hints, or traditions.

Well, we don't use real trees other than once in a blue moon. However, what we do is begin on Christmas Eve. All families gather at one house and we play a lot of different party games from 4pm on till 10pm for prizes. The kids play their own. We also have food that we are all used to from the North East rather than here in Florida, where everything is chicken and hot spices. LOL...We have stuffies (a stuffed quohaug), and just things we can't get like we used to - Chourico, Portuguese Soup, etc. Mostly Italian, Portuguese, and Sea foods.

OH, and the party games are so fun. If anyone wants some adult party game ideas, just let me know!

We then open presents with everyone and save our childrens things and our personal spousal things for Christmas morning, and then this way each family can have a peaceful Christmas morning with family without having to travel.

Sometimes we do visit others, but sometimes not. Depends on how the day goes, but mostly its just a vege-out day.

Other than that, a tradition I started several yeasrs ago was that we put up all Christmas decorations on the eve of Thanksgiving Day to begin the new holiday season.

As for New Years, we never did anything for that. Usually we don't even stay up for it. It is just not something we ever did do.

We used to get together with some old family friends and have a huge bash Christmas Eve. We'd leave about midnight, and our friends and their entire family would just be catching their second wind, refilling their plates, and then back to more presents and good times. But they moved to Florida :( , so now on Xmas Eve we've started the new tradition of taking a walk in the woods/fields behind the house and back up through the neighborhood. It's especially nice when there's snow and moonlight! Also, a very nice, peaceful way to spend the evening with just the immediate family.

Now THAT sounds like it should have it's own thread. ;-)

That's fine, as long as you know I mean adult "family" games. Not THOSE kind of adult games. LOL....
