I just got back from Florida (at 4:00 am). It was overcast and dreary most of the time I was there. We went to Myacka State Park, and the most exciting thing I saw was a squirrel. But, I did manage to get a few half-way decent (I think) pictures one night at the beach. No wonder I got sick running around in the damp.

Here's the links to the big pictures:

It is a shame that all you saw at Myakka was a squirrel. That is usually one of the easiest places to spot an alligator. Really like your great blue heron shots...they are one of my favorite birds here to photograph. If you make it down again, let me know and I will suggest some other places you might want to check out for good photo opportunities.

My father lives in Nokomis, so it is a 100% certainty that I will be there again at some point. I'm always looking for places to take pictures. I went on the canape walk at Myakka. It's too bad that hell will freeze over before I'll do that again, because you could get some really spectacular sunset shots from up there. That's where I saw the two deer from, but my zoom lens only goes to 150 mm. I was too far to get a good picture of them.

I also saw some buzzards at Myakka. I'll fiddle with the pictures of them later.

Honeymoon Island State Park is really nice. We went a few weeks ago and there were tons of birds, especially Osprey, and very social armadillos! There is also "Ding" Darling State Park on Sanibel Island. Even the park around the corner from my house gives me some good birding opportunities.

I live up near Destin, Pensacola, around there. West panhandle. My actual town has some cool wildlife, but I do plan on taking a trip next spring to a local butterfly house. I also want to get to the fantastic beaches we have here as well. About an hour or so drive from me. I hope to do that while my son is still on vacation, but we shall see. It is hard for me to travel, but I seriously need to get some good landscapes under my belt. LOL...
