Wow. Ive been a member since March of this year. I have never felt like packing up and leaving despite alot of low scoring challenge entries, and even some comments left that were personally offensive and in my opinion judgemental to my work, or my personal self.

I just keep trodding along. Learning. Trying to be myself. Trying to make a difference in my imagery. Trying to understand voters. Trying to see if I can learn from each and every challenge I submit myself to.

Heck, I love this place. Despite all its inherent flaws.

I gave more 10s and 9s than I have for some time. Some absolutely wonderful entries. Also had a lot of 8s and 7s. But I also gave more lower votes than I usually do too with a lot more 3s and 4s than I often hand out.

Some new additions to my Favourites collection in here which is great!

This is the perfect mind-set for any member of DPC. I think there are too many thin-skinned people here who are looking for false flattery. If your image 'sucks' I'm going to tell you that it does (admittedly I will try and be contructive in my criticism).

This challenge is full of images that completely have no regard to the concept of Shallow DOF. I would hesitate a guess that only 50% fall (somewhat) within the true concept. However, there are another 10% of shots that are really good on their own merit and I am one of those people who score according to the quality of shot as well as meeting the challenge.

One question though: What's with all the small model cars/etc in this challenge?

I totally agree with what you said about the percentages meeting challene, AND how you vote them. I do the same. As for little cars, I have no idea. But I see them often in challenges..LOL.

as a new comer i actually agree with you, out of the challenges i entered two of the challenges i put little brain and effort and both of them were low scoring and i got lot of comments explaining me, for example , "a reflection of buildings in mirror is not a landscape" , of course that is landscape but few people were looking for scenery in landscape challenge and that was not scenery BUT WAS landscape. I got scores in the bottom. Of course i can not complain what i got it, since it is the system and i should accept it.
Bugged by this i entered two useless enteries without any thought into it, and with no creativity and viola my scores are up. Last one i even was able to make in top 20 (which is not desreved). (I did not think of scores for this entery and was wanted to have fun, since after seeing how people score this is what i can do, i am happy few people liked it).

but bottom line is if by looking at images in the gallery and trying to study the images those catch my eye, i probably will be able to learn little photography, this is the only attraction i have with DPC.
About challenges i know i can not make everybody happy, so i decided to keep myself happy with doing whatever i wish to do.

But you DON'T tell people why their individual photos suck! You just come to the forums and complain that everyone misunderstood the challenge except you and tell how you voted everyone with a different interpretation low. How is that telling people how to improve?????????? Your interpretation is not the be all end all. Take a look at the previous Shallow DOF challenge. With the current definition, a lot of the top shots there would not have scored as well. A lot of people look to past challenges to get inspiration. In this challenge, if you don't have some of the foreground blurry, you suck. Oh paalease. Come donw off your high horse and realize that there are many different versions of Shallow DOF. The sites I visited just this morning vary from foreground in focus and background not to anywhere in between. It just depends on HOW SHALLOW a DOF you were going for. Not here.... you have to be the mid ground to make people happy and if you didn't do that you are wrong and don't know what it means or there wasn't "much thought put into how to use shallow dof to enhance the photo." Since it seems I am never going to be in agreement with the DPC elite I am not going to waste any more time here.
