If I shoot pics with my camera in .jpeg only and then take that card out, can I then put that card into a d70 to transfer the pics to a computer?

You shouldn't need Canon software. Just plug your cable into any computer running XP and it should recognize and show up as an external drive. Then copy and paste the files like normal.

They are not running XP on their systems. I asked.

What are they running? Mac or PC?

What does that have to do with if the nikon will transfer canon images? That is the question, not what system they are running.

PC, Win 98

Because there are multiple alternatives to the one you requested assistance with.

1. Take practice shots with the 20D and transfer the card to the D70. It will either work or it won't, but all you have to do is format the card when you are done and all is well.

2. Plug the 20D using the USB cable into an available port on the computer. XP and recent OS X will recognize the camera via built-in drivers and show the contents of the card as a drive.

3. Find and download the right driver to allow this to happen on W2K, W98 (where I was going).

4. Buy a card reader and install the USB driver for W98. The drivers are not native to the OS, as it is too old.

5. Have the museum buy a computer made in the last 6 years and save a lot of headache with software and hardware compatibility.

6. Find another computer in the building that is running a version that is compatible.

7. Transfer the files at home and take them to work on a USB flash drive/burned CD/email/FTP/etc.

The list goes on.
