1) make those itty-bitty boxes BIGGER, please
2) make the message persist while the send function is checking to see if you are logged in. i just lost a LONG pm because my dpc connection had timed out--that sucks.
3) give the sender a 'return' message when the recipient's email address is invalid
thanks! |

That should be possible, good idea!

Tricky, but might be possible. I'd recommend that you write everything in notepad or suchlike before cut/paste into the PM if your connection is that unreliable.

When you sign up to DPC you have to have a valid email address in order to enable your account. However, there's no easy way of telling if this address has subsequently expired or suchlike, and parsing the bounce messages would be quite a task in itself...

I'm no expert on coding... in fact I know next-to-nothing, but could you not do it so that it bounces messages to the sender's "PM-box" a.k.a. their e-mail, whether it is valid or not?

I'm not sure how we could do that and not give away the sender's email address. Part of the benefit of the PM system is it's private -- the email addresses of both parties are protected.

I know you guys think the PM system is working well, but I just got PM's that were sent almost 2 weeks ago. |

On what date were they sent?
Also, would you mind pasting the COMPLETE Internet headers from the email into a ticket on //www.dpchallenge.com/help_contact.php? I'd like to see where the problem is. I get a lot of PM's and have never had a delay like you described. I'm not saying there's not a problem, because there clearly is, but the headers will give us some good insight as to WHAT the problem is.
Thanks,
Terry

thanks, guys!
i know #1 should be easy enough (as well as really nice). #2 would probably take some work, but it would really be worth it, rather than having to resort to an ugly work-around. #3 was just wishful thinking. |

The system seems to be working fine for users who aren't using AOL but those who are seem to be having quite a problem with delay. You definitely aren't alone in that. |

I'm not using AOL and I'm not getting PM's. I sent myself one just to check. Didn't get it. Then I sent one with the box checked to send myself a copy and didn't get that or the copy. |

Kelli,
I just sent a regular email to your email address on file with us. Did you receive it?

Did you check your "spam" or "junk" mail folder as well, if you have one?

Terry - No, I didn't get that either! I wonder what's wrong. That is my correct email address. I'm using Outlook express. |

Can you send an email to incoming [at] dpchallenge [dot] com?
That way I'll be able to see your source email address and compare it to the one we have on file.

This wouldn't take much coding if the actual send was sent from another window. Think of the forum preview with an added send button. That adds a seperate step to confirm the message is right, but at least nothing is lost in the original window. It could likely be sent in this manner without actually displaying the preview window.
Storing it temporarily would also work, but adds much more complexity -- and I would rather see a full-fledged mailbox system. :D
As has been pointed out typing the message in a text editor first is an option, but is a pain -- I have learned to copy the text to the clipboard before posting (Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C), works better for me than a seperate editor until the problem is addressed.

If DPC recieves a bounce notification, what happens to it? Would it be that hard to process the bounce notification to discover who sent it and send a PM to the sender saying something to the effect of 'the message send to user has been bounced...' and give the reason included in the bounced message -- taking care to not give any server names and such.
While that's being done, a mechanism to add the email addy to a list. One bounce is probably not a big deal, but when a threashold is reached placing a notice on that users front page that they need to update their email address would be great. Just a suggestion to help keep the sight in communication with itself. ;) It sounds like a lot, but it's all relatively straight-forward coding and the notification code is already in place (for DQ validation requests) and would just need replicating.

Add a preview pop-up as is done with forum posts. I hate seeing the typo for the first time in the "The Following Message Has Been Sent ..." window.
I don't have much use for spell-checkers, but I remember hearing other people express a desire for one. |
