Last week i took my first batch of raw pictures to see what the difference was. The difference is quite big. I cant see them. I tried the plugin mentioned in other threads but I only found one available for PS CS and I have 7. Can someone please let me know what I need to do or direct me to a thread you might know that I missed.

Thanks in advance!!

Photoshop 7 does not support RAW files. You should have some software that came from your camera that will allow you to convert them. Otherwise, Raw Shooter Essentials is free and you could use that.

To simply view the files, if you're using Windows, you can download the Microsoft RAW image thumbnailer.

Photoshop 7 DOES support RAW files...but not the RAW files of some newer cameras, the same is true with Photoshop CS....That's a Ploy by Adobe to force you to Upgrade to the latest version of Photoshop EVERY time you upgrade your camera...

IrfanView will read canon raw files. I don't know how many other raw files it will read. It is free and fast. Google it!

Google's Picasa also reads RAW files.

On (one of the) CD('s) that came with the D70 was a NEF converter plugin voor Photoshop that works finde with Photoshop 6 and therefore should work fine with 7. It isn't much, it is only a converter and you can only adjust whitebalance (basic). Also the Nikon View or Picture Project software should be able to convert to TIFF and those you can read with PS.

The Rawshooters essentials software might be a great option too.
I'm downloading it and will test it against Nikon Capture later today.

Thanks for telling me. I use it as a picture viewer, as it lets me see all the photos on my computer. I use RSE for editing my RAW files, and Photoshop Elements for editing other photos.

If you have Photoshop 7 then the CS2 upgrade will install OK.You can then open your RAW files and enhance them all in one professional program.

thank you so much. i couldnt find the disc that came with the camera so thats why i couldnt do it. I also ended up using Raw Shooter Essentials. Very cool Program..

Now why does it not make sense that I can edit images freely until in .tiff format? Is it a matter of compression?

Now I would like to print some but low and behold ive got these weird lines on my print... I wish I was better with computers.
