Any other opinions on titles? I can't decide if I should use the pun as the title or not.

so...what if you have to read the title to get the pun?
like...the picture and the title go together?
I love my pic...but it's not really a pun without the title...so I guess it's not going to do very well.
pppssshhh...who knows. |

I'm using the pun as my title. I don't want to chance DNMC comments. Those make me crazy. I don't think mine is that difficult, but voters seem to prefer the obvious over the thinkers.
I hope I have an original idea... no one has mentioned it in these threads so far. I'm really excited to see the things people have thought up! |

Use the pun as part of the title. Puns are a play on words and therefore most puns do not translate between languages and some are even difficult to comprehend between English speeaking countries. So using the pun as part of the title will aid the voter. |

Mine shouldn't need it in the title but I'm putting it there to "cover all the bases".

VERY good examples.
When you think about just the things you say on a daily basis (aside from money laundering..LOL), and convert them to a literal meaning, you will find a lot of interesting visual puns that way. The choices are really endless.
Barbie-Q - bunch of barbie dolls on a grill
Handbag - a bunch of hands coming from a purse
A chip on your shoulder - a computer chip on shoulder
"Leeked" documents - a briefcase shown with the leek vege coming out of it.
Air Plane - A plane used in construction to level wood could be flying throuh the air.
A few that would work without a description of how to use it would be "throwing in the towel", and "sister hood", etc. You can just see a visual in your head when you take them literally. This is what you would submit along with the title of the same.
So many choices, so little time.

I tried really hard to come up with an idea that maybe alot of people wouldn't use, but now because of this THREAD there will probably be multiple renditions of the idea I chose. The pun I chose to use is mentioned a few times in this thread. This really irritates me along with threads that post outtakes before the challenge even starts!??????

Ahhh, I had this same complaint once. I was told to basically "suck it up".
So now I don't have any problems sharing "ideas" as the contest discussion was quoted to me as a sharing fo ideas. I had to change my title to an entry once because it was repeated on a concept thread, and that really annoyed me too. BUT, like what was said to me, I will say to you, which is you just have to hope that it doesn't happen but it really can't be helped.
I had to change my title. There is still time to reshoot to make your entry more interesting or an all new one if you like. Just a suggestion, but these concept threads won't end. We are all in the same danger...LOL. I watch this thread myself to see if mine is mentioned. If it is, I am reshooting. Actually, I still have more to read. It may have been mentioned already! LOL....Maybe I won't reshoot. I think it is a very good rendition, and it should stand on its own merit.

while it can be annoying when your idea is mentioned, I think it is usually the way you execute an idea that matters as opposed to the uniqueness of it. There have been many challenges with entries that expressed the same idea or used the same title, and they vary considerably in how they were presented.
Plus the majority of voters likely have not read this thread, so don't sweat it.

What's a visual pun?
I know I can't do the challenge, but I'm still curious. |

[quote=Rose8699] [quote=dsa157] here are a few I have done in the past:
Barbie-Q - bunch of barbie dolls on a grill
How about a bunch of barbie to for the shape of the letter "Q"? My idea has not been posted yet, so I'm happy about that. |

That would be cool too!
I just hope no one uses "fountain of youth", if you know what I mean! LOL.....I can see the toilet now with the youthful stream pouring in...ewwwww.

Right, and not only that, but my "Cheater" entry was not mentioned in concept, yet it was duplicated many times and in various ways. My "odd" entry is the entry where I felt I should change the title. In both entries I still didn't fair badly and had good comments as well. So it really is hit and miss, no matter what is mentioned or not. Although I do agree. I do hope my own entry passes the bar, mentioned or not. OOOOppps? Did I say "passing the bar"? LOL....

My Title to the Landscape II challenge was a play on words. I don't know if some got it or not.
"Farewell Green Leaves"

Hmmm..not quite getting it myeslf. Is it a lake that is called Farewell, or are you saying good bye to the Autumn? It's not as clear cut, but the shot is AMAZING and has fantastic colors. I love it!

I wouldn't be too sure on that one. Although this thread has only 119 posts, it has 2485 views as of this post. |

If somebody brought up your idea here, then obviously they thought of it too. Even if they didn't say anything in the thread, there's a good chance your shot would't have been the only one to use the idea. Heck, my own concept was mentioned by one of the best photographers on this site (though not here), so there's a possibility he'll be shooting the same thing. I'm not exactly thrilled about that, but I'll push on anyway. |

So was Barbie-Q, and therein lies our creative escape hatch. The same verbal pun can often be expressed many ways. |
