I am getting a rebel xt for christmas (the 300d is for the "family") and so I will be needing another memory card. The one I have now will stay in the 300d. Anyway, my budget is $80, but I want a high speed, reliable card, so all I am asking for is 1 gb of storage. Does that sound reasonable? I am just wondering what cards you guys use in that price/size range.

I start with the weekly ads for BestBuy/Staples Circuit City - one or the other always has a sale/rebate on some card. if not this week, then next.

online, NewEgg is good. I got a 1Gb Kingston Elite pro from them for under $80 a few months back

Pretty much you gotta watch for the deals and jump on them when they show up. 512 cards are still the best deal per Gb/$ and unless you shoot RAW they have plenty of capacity. Even for RAW they'll hold 50-60 images on an XT.

I use SanDisk Ultra II CF cards for speed and reliability.

I do plan on ordering from newegg.

For the 300d I have a 512 card, but I was thinking that there may be ocasions where I want to shoot raw I am thinking 1gb.

Does anyone know the speed that the 350d reads/writes?

No problem. We use them all the time for computer gear (and CF cards, and one camera). They are super fast and usually have the best prices. The only downside is their return policy is limited (I think for camera stuff returns are only accepted if the product is defective), so you've got to be sure you know what you want, but if you're sure of your decision, getting it with them is totally the way to go.
