Ok...well...I bought my Rebel about two months ago and I love it to death. But I need some change.
I'm going traveling this summer and I don't want to have to carry around a my camera and all my lenses and everything.
So what I'm looking for is a good camera that has all the SLR features but doesn't use removable lenses. It needs to have good glass on it and a good range also. It's also important that it retains the majority of the features on my Rebel... I have quite a bit of money to spend on it as I had a decent setup with my rebel that is on ebay right now.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...especially if you own a certain camera and can tell me what you like about it and what you don't like about it.
Thanks in advance. |

the last photography magazine I received had a good review of fixed lens cameras comparable to many slrs..also, check on steves-digicam.com and dppreview.com for some ideas. You might want to check out the Sony cybershot dsc-h1..it had an impressive review.

Sony DSC-R1 feature an APS-C sized sensor like your rebel so good performance at any ISO. good pixels sharpness. and as glass on it that according to dpreview worth the price of the camera alone. |

My aunt has the Nikon 8800. I drool over it every time I see it. It's 8 megapixels and has a 10 optical zoom. One of my friends also has this and he has picts posted here:

it's still as big as a SLR and has all the manual features. |

It seems that right now the only thing that can give you real flexibility is the R1, once you have gotten used to DSLR abilities that is.
The R1 probably cost more than your current kit though... including your 2 lenses listed in your profile. It's also probably around the same size as your 300D with one of the below mentioned lenses. It's a big peice of hardware.
I would probably look out for something a little cheaper, maybe a second hand FZ20?
There were some older cams that did some decent things, but nothing that came close to a 300D.
Which DSLR features are you looking for?
Distance from target flexibility?
Image Sharpness?
Noise characteristics?
ISO flexibility?
Low light shooting?
The only thing a P&S will be able to offer really good performance on is the actual distance from target range.
Otherwise, you might be better off picking up a lens that has the distance range that you want (for the same price as a P&S) and shooting your 300D with that lens exclusively to keep your carry-around size low.
The 28-200 Canon lens is 359 US.
The 18-200 Sigma lens is 369 US.
Both would cover roughly the same range as you are already shooting for the same cost as a new 2nd camera.
A Canon S2 IS is around the same price. It's not pocketable, nor is any other big zoom camera.
Otherwise, you might look at the Fuji F10 which is a pocketable camera that could be had fairly cheap second hand and has decent ISO capabilities, but only up to around 100mm ish for max telephoto.
