I was following the business card thread on and off for a bit and ..being in the business of advertising I thought..hmmm..what should my business card look like if I were to go into freelancing?

So..I thought maybe a few other folks out there might be curious what I came up with seeing as this is what I do for a living (then you can say....heck..I can do that..and inspire you to get out there and make some money!):-P

There are lots of ways to go about design. One of my advertising directors from 20 years ago told me "Dude (he was a leftover from the Cheech and Chong era), remember three things and you will make a lot of money...color, motion and bigger than life"

I still use that idea today....the KISS principle.

So..here is my current business card in training...

I was inspired by the latest spoon challenge and I think I will play with this idea for a while. I have never had an icon represent my name and SPOON!!! (remember the Tick?) is sorta cool..maybe.

The thing to remember....repetition, repetition, repetition.

I use my name in my business, on my e-mail, on my website...you get the idea. I want the customer to remember one thing when they get my card...Scott Hudson. Not a cute baby, not a wonderful sunset, not a cool artsy logo...just my name.

I used color, I picked the color up out of the spoon photo to use in my logo to help tie the card together.

I used the idea of creative photography design as a play on words..to be taken seperately or as a unified idea..Creative photography design..you get the idea. And made that along with my name..my logo.

Then the spoons for the bigger element and to add flashes of color and finally the model with an interesting (dare I say provocative) use of the spoons..having a little sublime feel.

Anywho..that is the way my brain works and lots of customers buy that B.S. everyday..Ain't America Great!!!!

I like how you are thinking about each element of the card carefully. It's good to have a strategy.

I like the card, but the spoons on the left, I dunno. I haven't looked at the spoon challenge entires yet, but at first glance it makes me think of baby food or something unpleasant. It's a cool photo, but when I see it on the card I go, "Eeew."

Anyway, nice design on the card. It's pretty slick.

Thanks for the feedback :-D

I see what you are saying and you know what? That is perfectly cool..as a matter of fact..some of the best images can cause you to say "What the Heck!"

I just put this card together this morning and without a customer to bounce it off of (other than me) it will go through several adjustments ..But I think you get the idea of this exercise :-)

O.K...after some feedback I went with a revision.

My thinking on the revision which applies to all my projects..Unity.

How do I unify the complete "Image" without becoming cluttered or losing impact?

The original built on the ideas of color and focusing on the message of..well..ME!!

But after a couple hours I felt the image might be slightly disjointed..

SOOOO......

I dropped the spoons to a background element while bringing their size up and the size of the model and offset the information all to the left..which helped tie the info together better I think and tighten up the look of the card so I didn't have two competing images but a background versus a foreground element.

I think I might be making progress..any ideas from all the creatives out there?

I like it but the fonts are a little to plain and cramped together (email especially is just too close to the rest). It's very simple and nice though!

A bit suggestive, perhaps a banana instead of a spoon, or a hotdog?

Very brave of you to choose such a "goofy" concept as the spoons.
You pulled it off very well, that second version looks really good!
I like the basic fonts - keeps my attention on the other components.
