I went to a local camera store, 4 weeks ago, and had them "swipe" my sensor with some solution and a sensor-swab. There had been some dust on the sensor or mirror. After they cleaned the senor, I went home and took a few pictures. It looked like the problem was gone. But a week later, there were big, black blotches (semi-opaque) on my pictures. Every few days, the size and dimensions of the blotches change...kinda weird. How many SLR users have major dust problems? Any way to avoid it? My pictures are suffering because there is too much junk on the sensor or mirror (BTW, how can you tell if the dust is on the sensor or the mirror???).

How often do you change lenses?

Not very often. And when I do change them, I'm always inside (99% of the time) and I change them as quickly as possible.

I clean my sensor at least twice each month, sometimes weekly. There is no way of stopping dust getting in so perfect yout cleaning skills.

How easy is it to damage the sensor? That's what I really worry about the most...or else I would probably have it cleaned (or clean it myself) more often.

Very easy if you are not careful, but follow the instruction (see the link) and you should be OK. I use the eclipse fluid and pec pads no problem so far and I must have cleaned the sensor at close to a hundred times by now.

Dust on the mirror will only show up through the viewfinder and not on the final image. Dust on the sensor will not show up in the viewfinder, just the final image.
