Jinjit, that would be awesome...thanks!

So again, I'm looking for the word "hope" that best conveys Messianic expectation, patience, waiting/watching...not a hope of "perhaps it will happen" but a hope of "this will happen. and i wait for it".

Thanks!

Ummm.... not quite.
I am not very familiar with all the interpretations of the book of Isaiah, but from what I know, the prohibition of tattoos came because a tattoo is the mark of nations who believe in many gods.
This is why it is so forbiden and is considered as such a problem.
Kinda, like each religion considers those who believe in a completely different god to be danger to their society.
One of the biggest problems religion brought to this world...

Leviticus talks about the prohibition of tattoos along with carving bodies, etc...the context in which it's mentioned is dissociation with their pagan neighbours.

And it's true, it's mentioned a few times in the OT that tattoos can be used in a positive way.

"This one will say, 'I am the LORD's,' another will call himself by the name of Jacob, and another will write on his hand, 'The Lord's,' and surname himself by the name of Israel."
-Isaiah 44:5
"Behold, I have graven you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me."
-Isaiah 49:16

Yes, the passage which includes Isaiah 49:16 is the one I was referring to. The hebrew word used there is "chaqaq" (strong's 02710, which may mean something or nothing to you) for "graven".

I suppose if you don't know the language well, then you could be read differently in different parts of the world.

For example: if you lived in England and really liked smoking cigarettes and decided to get "I love fags" tattooed on your face, then when you visited America, you could get some funny looks!!!!!!!
Just a thought :-)
