SWEET! 2 Ribbons... I will be waiting for the mail man :-)

Btw, let's keep the picking over here and out of the Say Chees Scores thread that will pop up.

Thats a good idea. We will just watch that thread so we can see how we are doing in comparison, and then we can gloat here!! LOL...

They may take this thread for a scores thread though??

Cheese broke a 100 entries! I suspect a few last minute-ers. I would guess about 122 all together coming up!

I'm almost dreading the Cheese challenge. Probably because I didn't have any good ideas of my own, I'm kinda seeing shoes again. I hope not, I didn't enter, I'll trust those more imaginative than me to show off their best.

fotomann, you are TOO funny! I like you. Someday I would like to do a one on one challenge with you. That would be cool I think.

I too do wish everyone the best of luck, and to idnic, I'm sorry. Don't dread the challenge. I am worried myself, as usually I get excited about my entry but then when I see the thumbnails - EEESH, then I dread my entry. LOL....

I hope I can stay up for this roll over. I am going to lie down a bit, and hope I don't fall asleep, but I just may. It's been a long day for me online for various reasons. Thats the reason I did so much posting today, so I am really drained.

If not, then the morning will be brighter!

Hope to make it another 1/2 hour~!

Rose, the head to head would be fun... perhaps we could set up a thread one day and try it.

Now, just a few more minutes and you can watch the roll over... if not we'll understand and I'll rag you tommorrow :-)

idric, don't worry about it, there are a lot of challenges to enter... considering taking a week off soon myself and just go do some stuff for myself on my free time.

fotomann, you know, you can go right to your nearest trophy shop and buy my ribbon there for like, fifty cents!

My score presently, by my calculations, has me at least in the top ten, so get ready!

Hey, if you and I both make the top three, I will still send you a ribbon of whichever color represents where you stand in the finals!

Have no fear. The debate issue on that is on the floor, and it "seems" that the interpretation of the contest is controversial. Some took the "old photographers cliche`" opening remarks of the rules as what to enter. Some took the last part about "subject being cheese" as what to enter. Therefore, I am basing my scores not on cliche` or cheese, but on if it makes me smile and technicals.

How about if the picture is just cheesy?

i waited for rollover at midnight.. first two votes gave me a 7... i was pretty happy with the good start. made the mistake of checking once more before I went to bed, it was 5.71... and now it's under 5.

musta been a couple of drunk voters last night in a better mood.

I think the voters at night tend to vote on emotions. It seems at first glance, subconciously, one tends to vote in comparison to their own entry (if they have one). On the other hand, if they don't have one, then they may vote extremely low or extremely high based on how they interpretted the contest and how your interpretation relates to theirs in your entry.

Given that, I think they go back later on and reaccess the votes. I know I have on many occasion gone back and bumped some up or down and said to myself "hell, WHAT was I thinking!". LOL...So I really take the first few votes with a grain of salt.

Another thing that happens is towards the end of a contest. I believe that subconciously, if one sees that their photo is definately not going to win a ribbon, they may go back and up the scores of those they feel are most deserving. I think I saw this in my Too Late entry, and this is why I mention it. The score jumped at the last few votes and I got 23rd place out of 160+. My best yet.

So, don't take heart to late night scorers. It all pans out in the end, ALTHOUGH, sometimes those that vote you a freaking ONE on the first night do make it rough to have your score get back up there. I believe for every ONE vote you recieve, it takes quite a few 5 or 6 votes to get you back to where you once were before that ONE, and that is what sucks! LOL...

I am personally setting aside any interpretation this time as to being it cliche`, actual cheese, or cheesy. I am going on if it makes "me, the audience" smile and technicals. To choose cliche over cheese or cheesy is just too much of a span in voting I think, at least for me. So, does it meet challenge in any regard? Does it make me smile? How it is it technically? And this is my premise for voting in this particular instance.

well, i'm can see that i'm not the only one who misread it.
I used cheese cliché to make my subject smile.

I read it like this:
The old photographer's cliché is now a challenge topic. Use cheese to make your audience smile.

It's hard to be dislexic some times.

Not to keep beating this dead horse, but I read it is like this:

Use cheese as "the subject" of your photo to make your audience smile. It does not say "use the old addage of say cheese as the subject of your photo to make others smile". When you ask anyone on the street what "cheese" is (as the subject of not only the description, but the sentence gramatically), they will say its a dairy product, and not a smile. The part about the old photographer's cliche' I took only as an opening statement used in an amusing way to segway to the actual description. However, it caused many to believe it was to use smiles, and contridicted the actual description, in my opinion.

I mean, think about it simply and in this way: when you say to "say cheese" in photography, it is to make the subject smile, not the audience. So to me I couldn't see how a bunch of smiling-face shots was going to make me, the audience smile. I assumed it meant to do something with actual cheese, which would be a bit more challenging and amusing then showing a smiling portrait.

This particular challenge --- well, let me rephrase that. There have been several challenges lately which have been a bit confusing in description. I don't just read the title. I read the entire description, and just as in candlelight, I am one that believes candles should be in the actual shot and not just low light unseen. In Visual Puns, I am one that does not believe you have to make an old joke come to life, but nearly any word or two or three words together can make a pun (butter-fly, Holy Cow, etc.)

It seems unless the challenge says "landscape" or "macro" or something that in-your-face, many will twist it into some kind of artistic metaphore for the simplified version and complicate it.

Just my opinion.

Unbelievable!

Nope, I wouldn't get that comment. As for giving them, I only gave them to my top pics, in which I chose 3 of those. They all have cheese. I, myself, am partial to the cheese being at least somewhere in the photo, as in physical cheese.

I realize that this thread has been going for awhile but I'm going to ask that we move the remaining bit over to this thread. That way we won't all have to rehash our views on the challenge if they've already been stated over there. Thanks. :)

Yup, I have to agree, cheese should have been in the photo.
