just wanted to share with the DPC population that I am on stage 15 at Warner Brothers on a pilot called "Genetically Challenged".
We have hit hour 8 of shooting in production time, with an e.t. of wrap to be midnight.
This is a 3 camera shoot. It's considered a comedy, and the main reason I am telling everyone this is because this is the first job that I have had, in 20 years, that production actually has a "laugh" department. Yes ,that is correct, 20 or so average citizens of the community, with certain demographics, are sitting on stage with the rest of the crew. There job is to laugh.
My question than is this.
How many times can you laugh at the same joke over and over?
How much money does it take to keep you laughing?
Off to get a cookie from Craft Service.

| Agreed. Alcohol would go a long way. |

After so many takes I would think that boredom would eventually set in - and then maybe there might be the friendly competition. Who could laugh the best, the loudest, whose laugh is infectious, whose giggle makes you snicker, etc. etc. Then it could possibly go into a person challenging themselves i.e. this time I am going to laugh the loudest, this time I'm going to twitter, etc. etc.
I am sure that some of these people in the laugh department can now list this job as an acting job as a tiny jumping point to start their career;-) |

Your parents!...JUST KIDDING!!
Man, to hear a little 9 year old tell it, it's so freaking funny. I don't even know where he learned it, he just came up to me one day and told it to me.

I think I'd start yelling at the actors to get it right the first time.
Then I'd get a free ride in one of those security carts! WOOHOO! |

Apparently the "laughing" department is getting around $10 an hour, and all the food they can eat.
The 'funny' thing is, the big wigs of production are laughing along with the script, and believe you me, they really should be drinking. I mean, have you heard a fake laugh before. Now imagine it for 12 hours, for the past week on a daily basis.

| If I was the stage tech union prez, I would force them to provide alcohol on the set of any sitcom that is in production these days. But even with that, it still seems more hazardous than working with asbestos. |

8 hours is a short day. It would be closer to $120.
This is fun sneaking off to get on line and not working. |

When's the last time thre was a successful sitcom that used a laugh-track, or laughing audience? Has if been a long time?
I remember watching them when I was young, but I think if I saw one today I'd be very annoyed.
What chances do you think this sitcom has for success? If it does succeed, do you think they'd keep the laughers? |

Richard Kline is the star if that helps. I was told the reason for the laughter department was to test the script before it went to post production.
They still use laugh tracks, but mostly, 3 camera shows have a studio audience during shoot days.
This is day two of this thread, and the last day of shooting this pilot. It will be an interesting day to say the least.

So when the writer is the only person laughing, and not even a snicker from the official laugh department is heard. What does that mean? Hmmmmm???

It most likely means that the pilot will be picked up by one of the networks. :(

It means go to Central Perk in bldg 3 and get a latte, ice cream, or a Jamba Juice. Or is that where you're sneaking off to get on the internet? ;-) |

Na, actually the dimmer board operator has a connection, and when he needs a break, I fill in now and then.
I guess I'm not technically sneaking off.
The fake laughing is starting to be annoying.
I need a drink.
