Mine do well - I get about 30,000 impressions a month for about $25-$30. I only use a few select keyword phrases and I basically know when I get someone off there. It's not bad but I use it mostly to put our name out there.

| A friend of mine just started using them and has already gotten enough back to pay for his monthly hosting fee ... I guess that is a good thing :) |

I advertise a couple of my (commercial) websites using Adwords. As the sites haven't reached the coveted Google page 1 yet I don't have much choice... :-/
Anyway, I've been using Google adwords for a couple of years now, and it's cost me an absolute fortune! - I suspect Google are the ones making the most money... |

If you're paying a fortune in Google ads, you should just hire a decent SEO guy. I do my own SEO and we're #2 for syracuse wedding photographer and top 10 for almost any search in our area. We use the google ads to enhance our listings.

I've done the SEO on a few sites now, and got them to at least the middle of page one. Playing the Google game is an obsession of mine.
It's the sites that are in highly competitive areas (such as a software product I'm selling at the moment), or broad geographic areas (the whole of the country instead of just one county for example) and where the keywords are much sought-after - these take longer to optimise.
At that stage you are relying more on link-backs to improve the page rank, which I achieve by putting articles and hoping to get links. Adwords is a nice lazy shortcut while I add content and wait for link-backs... But it's an expensive option. It explains why Google are so rich though. |
