You have failed to state any major advantages to using a 800xD size ...
By the way, to get the most out of 600xD try NOT putting a 10 pixel wide border around your challenge entries. |
LOL! This site never ceases to amaze me...I guess I should be an avid ready of your photo site so I can learn more about photography and how to properly display images online.

Brent you are completely missing the point Terry (as a spokesperson for D&L) and i have made.
It has very little to do with who uses dialup.
The website is not going to change image specs to suit 14% of the internet suave population that are able to run thier monitor at higher than 1024 and say screw you to the other 86%. It is bad web design. It costs money to recode. It will cost uses in other countries more money to view the site ( i have yet to see you offer to pay for the extra bandwidth consumption for people like Heida who have to pay by the KB, that your proposal incurs).
And i happen to agree tat the quality and quanity of your input into all aspects of the site is highly relevent when you are demanding it changed to suit your desire. |

It's just not my desire for 800x600. I'm just the only one bringing it up this time. Photosig has members all over the world (incuding Iceland) I have never seen one complaint about larger file sizes costing them money... |

yes but they have a whole different business model. They don't ask their members to view hundreds of photos each week. DPC does. |

If you'd like ... but it's not intended for "working professionals" ...
Quite a few of us are working professionals, by the way, so don't get all high and mighty on that trip. Many of us draw regular paychecks from our work.

Your comment about a 10 pixel border was petty and hardly relevant. 20 pixels didn't make a difference worth bothering with.
And I realize that I'm not the only one who makes a living with photography on this site, but it's a minority.

You have seen people right on this thread complain how hard it is to vote due to file size and scrolling both.
It does not matter what they do on other sites. It is what is wanted and needed here.
Photosig is not like this site. I do not know why you keep bring it up. |

I've seen a handful of people on dial-up complain. |

How many threads would be started by people who suddenly can only see half of each entry, and are spending half-again as much time (and possibly cash) to view and vote on them? I bet the number of complaints about that would overwhelm the few which complain the image size is too small.
BTW -- I'm using a 17" monitor; 1600x1200 is not an option ... |

Only if you want me to look at your picture compressed down to a lovely 65,000 color palette, instead of the 16.7 million I'm using now.
Also, I'd have to get new reading glasses if I wanted to read this ... |

Today's edition of NPR's All Things Considered includes a report on bringing broadband to small, rural communities.

How do we go about displaying 800 max pixels (verticlaly) on a 1024x768 screen?

Isn't "full screen" at that resolution 768 pixels tall? We're going to lose some pixels somewhere if the picture's 800 pixels tall. |

Thanks for the link GE. This is exactly what I was saying earlier in this thread that my husbands company is doing here in Texas. I will have to share the link with him. |

F11 can display an 800 pixel high image on a 768 pixel high screen?

So make the max dimensions 750px. It's still another 100 px. and you won't lose anything.

Yeah I voted but am a little confused really - There is a LOT of variability in Cable & DSL download speeds that I am not that sure what the survey really tells. I run at 6Mb down but I know other cable users that are a lot slower and I believe there are at least 3 general DSL speeds (with about 10x difference between the bottom and top). Besides there is no option for fibre that I am looking to move to :-) |

One of this week's hot topics...
Don't forget to make your survey/poll selection in the top left corner of the DPChallenge website. ;^)
Maybe everyone was right and dial-up is now a dinosaur? I need to move out of the sticks I guess. ;^) At least we're on the list for BPL (Broadband over Power Lines) - if/when it ever gets implemented by our electric co-op.

I have broadband but it goes down a few times a month (sometimes for hours - as it is tonight) so sometimes (like tonight) I use my cell phone for dial up. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to log onto DPC an raise hell / annoy the hell out of people / make people say "oh hell" and lots of other stuff that involve H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS |

I do sometimes, mostly I keep my screen at a higher resolution so that it doesn't matter.
