i am kind of stumped with the lack of response to this image. i wasn't expecting to win, and am content with the placing - but the lack of feedback makes me wonder. i tried to create an emotional & semi-surreal image. did i fail?

Neil Young lyric = I don't listen to enough Neil Young to even understand the title.

hmm. well i was hoping the photo would clear that up...

it's about injecting drugs, it wasn't really about Neil Young or his tunes. i might have missed the in your face message, but feel the message is there.

at any rate - it wasn't easy to take.

Hey, I got it. I probably didn't comment cause I just don't have time. I only comment on my worst and best pics. So you were probably somewhere in the middle.

I don't know how hard it was to take your photo, but mine was "Fork in the Road" and I can tell you that taking about 40 shots while standing in the middle of the road (or I should say bending since I got it at the level of the fork where I couldn't even see what I was taking for shots), was not easy! I used the same road a few days later for another challenge and got stopped by a cop for it! :)

Mine here did NOT place well. I tried to make it appealing, and pretty, for a lousy fork, but it didn't go well. My comments were all over the place as usual. Some hated it, some loved it, some commented on the technicals. Well, for a photo I couldn't even see when taking, I don't think it came out all that bad to place where it did, but its all a crap shoot on here.

Just when you think you have one that will ribbon or at least place high, you tank. Then the photos you enter last minute go beyond your expectations. I guess that is what keeps us coming back for more!

Well, if it makes you feel better, I liked your picture better than the one that won.

I didn't understand the relationship between a spoon and a knitting needle, but gave the shot a 6 on technical merrit.

I get it--both the photo and the Neil Young reference--and it is well executed technically, but it just doesn't "do it" for me. I think it has to do with the background more than anything.

well - this is what i was aiming for - for input - thanks.

all mine - for the most part - are entered at the last minute or hour...
i am not upset - just the feed back i got locally was opposite the DPC opinion.

I liked it, wish it had done better. The lighting looks cool, and I like how simple the background is.

I'm with Mad. I think I gave it a 7.

Who said the pic just doesn't do it for them? That's how I feel about the one that one. The composition is good and clever, but it just doesn't blow my skirt up.

I left you a comment.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to say that I'd rather get half the number of votes and twice the number of comments on my entries so voting people, think about not voting on every picture and using the extra time to leave more comments.

thanks all

I gave you an 8. Sorry that I did not comment. I liked the lighting and the title. I found the contents inside the spoon distracting or I would have given you a 10.

IMO this very decent image is hurt somewhat by a sort of a "graphical disconnect" between the bowl of the spoon and everything else. The needle/nail, the spoon handle, the BG are all fairly surreal in thew way they work togetehr, but the bowl of the spoon/heroin substitute look almost as if they are grafted on from another image, as far as the lighting/color quality goes.

If, for example, you'd found a way to make the "drug" molten, syrupy, (which it would be just prior to injection anyway) and you had luminous, red light on that part of the image too, this might have been a stronger statement.

hmmm- well i did try that - but couldn't hold the flash, the flashlight, and the remote release to good effect while also holding the MAPP gas torch ;}

honestly it was attempted.

I'm hoping the lack of responses has to do with the holiday season and lack of time on everybody's part. I've noticed comments are harder to come by in the last month too...

to clarify - i spilled some confectioners sugar, then used flour for the next attempt. we didn't have too much of the sugar.
