I was taking pictures with my Canon SD400 (ultra compact P&S) the other day and all of a sudden the screen on the back freaked out. It is all white with a black splotch and some colored lines. I didn't see it happen - it was fine one shot and messed up the next. Nothing hit the camera, it was in my hand the whole time. Although I have a (tiny) viewfinder, the screen is super important because all the menus are run through it.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Do you think it could have been caused by the pressure of my thumb holding the casing because the black splotch is near where my thumb rests.

The camera is about 6 months old and still under warranty, but it looks to me like the presumption is against the owner with LCD problems, do you think it will be covered?

I work at a retail electronic store... the LCD is a grey area. Generally it is not covered if there is an impact point there wit was dropped or hit. If that isnt the case then we try to cover it. (we've been having some issues with the SD400 the past 2 weeks too) But if it's covered under warranty then definatly bring it in to get looked at.
