My image "capture the Magic" was just disqualified. I assumed text was allowed since it was a advertisement, but I failed to read the editing rules so my error. Thanks for all of you who voted and left nice comments, I appreciate it!

I was afraid that would happen when I saw the image, but must say it was really really well done. A lovely ad-type image. Congrats on the exellent work.
Post it here so others can see it. In case they missed it.

I saw that Susi, and I cringed when I saw the text because it is an amazing photo and your work is beautiful. |

I agree, you did an excellent job of creating a holiday ad. Just not so excellent on the rules part. ;) |

Thanks for the support!
Here is a link to where it made POTD at another site, so I feel better :)//www.digitalimagecafe.com/view_photo_theme.asp?src=9277 |

Even without the text, the added stars would have resulted in a DQ, but I agree that it's a great photo. |

Is the advanced editing rules as creative as the editing gets? I mean is there, or has there been a challenge where more creativity is allowed? |

For the mostpart, yes. There have been a few challenges with more lenient editing rules but in general, they are few and far between. |

Yeah, they seem pretty rare, but they do happen...
Here's one where text was allowed: Jewelry Advertisement |

scalvert, Why would the stars result in a DQ? Those can be done several ways .. ie a lot of dodge with a star shaped brush.. a white star shaped brush ... doesn't seem to be a "major element" ... just curious.

You may not post-process your entry from or to include elements of multiple images, multiple exposures, clip art, computer-rendered images, or elements from other photographs (even those taken during the challenge week), and other similar items.
The stars would be computer-rendered images created in post-processing. You can't draw shapes or objects into the entry, no matter which tools you use or whether the created object is major or not. The sparkles would have to be in the original capture (using a star filter on the camera, for example) to be legal. |

They said it was disqualified because of text.
The stars were a brush in PS. |

OK, I understand, getting ready to send a check for my paid membership and don't want to start out with a DQ ... lol... thanks

You would have been disqualified for either. Here's an example from a challenge where text was allowed to be added under special rules, but the image was disqualified for the created sparkle:

It would be nice if there was a gallery of examples somewhere.
Photos that did/would get DQ'ed for various reasons, as well as examples that might look questionable but were/would be legal.
I'm all in favor of the rules and of reading them, but at times it can be tough (especially for a newbie) to work out whether or not something IS legal. |

I think that's a great idea! I also found it very hard the first couple of entries what I could do / couldn't, and I still sometimes have doubts

That's why we started leaving the DQ'd photos listed at the end of the challenge results. |

Yes, and it is MUCH appreciated, a great idea and no doubt studied often.
But when someone comes along wondering if ________ (insert technique/problem/element etc here) would be legal, it is still not very useful.
I am not complaining, just daydreaming about what would be nice to have. |
