I'm thinking about buying a backdrop system. What is the difference in terms of use and practicality between seamless paper and muslin? What do you suggest?

Muslin can be wrinkled up and thrown in a bag but it can wrinkle and it does not last as long. If you are going to travel a lot with them I'd recomend giving the muslin a try, if they will always stay at your studio I'd recomend canvas.

I love canvas and paper but for different reasons, I love the clean crisp look of paper and the way it carries the light. But I love the weight of canvas, I'm not crazy about muslin probably because I don't like ironing and I'm not a fan of wrinkled backdrops.

Is canvas washable? I mean, if it gets dirty? I think that paper is something that you have to change very often, isn't it?

My canvas is washable but I've not had to wash it yet. It's not painted canvas just died jet black and nice and heavy. For me, changing paper depends on how hard someone is on it, my paper is on a hard floor so stepping on it doesn't make wrinkles/holes like it would if it were on carpet. I've had my paper maybe 3 months and only cut it maybe 3 times?

I don't use backdrops very often, but I have built a simple studio in my garage for experimenting. I like paper is this context because it hangs so flat (until you damage it). I didn't like cloth because it always looked like I just hung something up behind the model. With paper I can create a nice curve at the bottom and then it just seems to vanish. In my case there is a gray background, but no seams, wrinkles or folds to catch the viewers eye... it's just a seamless gray background.
Sorry for the wording description... I have a hard time describing the differences
