I am not folowing the Gauntlet constests very closely, but have noticed that photographic integrity is not even a minor consideration - digital art gone mad!

So if this is just under teh surface here are DPC, why is there sooo much resistance to loosening of the editing rules?

We need an occasional no-rules free study!

For me, the Gauntlet is exactly the reason to resist loosening of the rules.

The Gauntlet is a Photoshopping contest. Why on earth would you expect photographic integrity in that?

These photos we're using are fun and nice, but .. no, that's not what i want to see on DPC. I go to DeviantArt for that.

I dont think he meant forever change the rules, just a specific challenge for something more like digital art.

Or just allowing all the techniques that are used to get the best posible photo. HDR...

...and while we are at it, how about letting at least 800x600 in the advance editing challenges.

For all the purist / "keep your PS brush out of the challenges" folks, DPC has had several exception challenges in the past and I think they were well received.

Obviously I enjoy them, but I agree they should be few and far between here.

That thread seems like it's in favor of teaching to the speed of the slowest kid in the class...

gauntlet - n.
1. A protective glove worn with medieval armor.
2. A protective glove with a flared cuff, used in manual labor, in certain sports, and for driving.
3. A challenge: throw down the gauntlet; take up the gauntlet.
4. A dress glove cuffed above the wrist.

The closest synonym is probably obstacle course.

"Running the gauntlet" is a form of hazing or punishment whereby the person being punished is forced to run between a double line of people who beat them with various implements. Metaphorically, it means overcoming a series of difficult challenges to your progress.

A gauntlet is also a (frequently armored) glove; "throwing down the gauntlet" means to challenge directly, as to a duel.

Here's another definition specifically for Art Roflmao and bear_music.

1. A form of punishment or torture in which people armed with sticks or other weapons arrange themselves in two lines facing each other and beat the person forced to run between them.

:-P

lol!

You know, I love DPC, really do, but sometimes the English language is so very hard to understand if it isn't your first...
and the reason why i love DPC is because everybody's got the patience to answer such "stupid" questions :D
thanx!

First off not all people around the world have instant access to high speed connections, or have the latest and greatest equipment to make a quality 640x xxx image. Second this is a learning site for the most part, for people to improve their photography skills. (And Photo editing skills:)

oooh you getting that one over here? hahaha!

"Ogres are like onions. Onions have layers, ogres have layers."

SHREK: Example? Okay, um, ogres are like onions.

DONKEY: [Sniffs] They stink?

SHREK: Yes. No!

DONKEY: They make you cry?

SHREK: No!

DONKEY: You leave them out in the sun, they get all brown, start sprouting' little white hairs.

SHREK: No! Layers! Onions have layers! Ogres have layers! Onions have layers.
You get it? We both have layers. [Sighs]

DONKEY: Oh, you both have layers. Oh. [Sniffs] You know, not everybody likes onions. Cake! Everybody loves cakes! Cakes have layers.
