I think the bigger picture here is that we scape goat the president (even Clinton) for our own fears and expect him to be all knowing, sorry but he is just a man and makes mistakes. I am glad my family doesn't judge me the way people judge him. nuf sed on that. The people in communities all over the country have been fighting this fight on terrorism and if something does happen heaven forbid, do we crawl in a hole and hide? There is danger all around you, so to walk in a fearful state (whether red or blue we are all American's) is doing more harm than good. Just my humble opinion.

even tho I live in a country ( New Zealand ) which has not been significantly hit by the war on terrorism, yet, I fully support the war as it is being waged, my only concern is for the soldiers fighting it, when they take losses due to being hamstrung by groups such as the press.
In any war mistakes happen, but I dont think sitting back and letting groups such as al quaeda do their thing is any way to go.
I have a nephew ready to go on a second tour to Afghanistan, and I know he believes in what he is doing there |

Yeah, but what does he know? He is not old enough or smart enough to know what is good or bad. It is up to society to protect him from being a pawn in political power trips.
Just kidding - that is how it seems some people think though. I would be insensed if I was over there fighting for what I believed to be the greater good and people were protesting "on my behalf".
Tell your nephew I, and many others believe in what he is doing there also and are doing more than paying lip service with things like "I support the troops, but not what they are doing".
Geez, good thing this is in the rant forum. ;-)
God bless New Zealand and Australia for having the guts to do the right thing and God bless your nephew and keep him safe. |

I have to ask....what exactly would he be doing there? Warlords still exist...the heroin industry is back on track...corruption is still a big serious problem...and yes women can now attend school and people can listen to music in the streets.
Mr.Frychkn-I was simply trying to point out how terrorism has hit me on a front line. Terrorism hit us all(here in the US) after 9/11 but it was a daily thing that people in England and France lived with in a larger way than I believe many Amercans can understand...even to this day.
This is a sick, sad thought but how many people in Middle America wake up and wonder if, today they will end up screaming in a fire in some subway tunnel? Well....many New Yorkers do as do Londoners and Parisians...and Spaniards...
It makes you think of more serious...MEANINGFUL, ways to fight terrorism than by force. That was the point of my original post. I'm all for killing the crap out of terrorists...indiscriminantly for all I care but do it for real or don't do it at all.
And for those that thought I should be thankful about a response time...well I am but we're not talking about a heart attack...or a cat stuck in a tree...I was pointing out a threat to the Lincoln Tunnel to be specific...which seems to be pretty consistent. No matter how quickly the cops get there thousands of people would still be wondering which way to swim. So it's not about Red or Blue States but anywhere that is not in any clear or present danger of an attack and how well the people in those locations understand what we're up against or true cause and effect.
One last thought:It's not like I obsess over these things but are fleeting thoughts and images that I (perhaps many New Yorkers) grapple with daily. I do hope that people have these images in mind and NOT, NOT meant in literal sense but I do hope that other people grappled with them too even if these threats don't directly effect them. |
You might have to ask, I cant tell you, he is in NZ Special Forces, and they dont tell anyone what they are doing.
I dont think there is any other meaningful way of dealing with these terrorists. While they represent Islam only in their own perverted ideals, and not in the true Islamic tradition, their avowed intent is to
kill all "non believers", their definition of a non believer being anyone who doesnt hold the same sick, perverted belief that they hold.
You cannot and will not change these people |
