I have recently been asked to provide the original for an image that obviously someone has requested a validation on, that̢۪s fine and it̢۪s great to see the system working but what I fail too understand is why I will never find out what the so called problem is with the image? What was the validation for?
This is the third time it̢۪s happened to me and on each occasion I can̢۪t for the life of me understand why the DQ request was put in.
What is most disappointing is the site council must have thought I had done something wrong to request the original after the DQ was raised and then as the innocent recipient of the allegation I will never know what that allegation was, it̢۪s like you are guilty until proven innocent.
When I have mentioned this before I was told I should be proud that someone thought I had cheated to create the image – well no I’m not proud I’m annoyed that a) site council couldn’t see that their was no problem and b) I will never know what the problem was in the first place.
Yuck, cringe my very first entry I get a DQ request. Welcome to DPChallenge
Why was a DQ raised on this ??
Ok maybe this one could have looked just a little suspect, a big maybe but.

| I completely agree that the SC should let you know what the allegations were. Not the identity of the requester, but certainly the allegations. |

I agree...
I see no reason to request a DQ on any of these images!?!?!? |

The point is that someone thought there was a reason, which is fine, but that reason should be disclosed. I see no point in hiding that. |

I could be wrong but I thought there was another way you could be asked for validation - if your image was doing well. AFAIK all ribbon winning images are validated... plenty of ribbons have been lost for things as minor as setting the time to pm instead of am and pm (looks like the pic is taken outside the challenge dates). Simply part of the rules of the site.
I wouldn't worry about it, knowing the reason for a DQ request won't make you a better photographer...
Also, if you know you did the right thing there will be no problem. If you did the wrong thing you don't deserve to win (it may be a great pic but its outside the rules).
The comments left on images, on the other hand, will hopefully help you become a better photographer and this is what we are here for :-) |

| I think most images that get looked at for DQ have very good elements in them that look like they have been added against the rules as is the case with all these three images. I have been asked for show images twice and I could see why and I took it as a compliment to some degree. You should be proud of these images and the fact that someone questioned them. |

Before I start I should clarify the reason that a request for proof does NOT mean that Site Council thinks you cheated. It simply means that we received at least one request for DQ and that we need more information to resolve it.
On your first entry, we did not request proof, you actually requested a validation, presumably due to the comments. When you requested, you did not include your editing steps, so we re-requested for those steps.
I have not looked at the DQ processing system pages for the other two entries, but looking at the photos themselves I can speculate as to the reasons.
I haven't looked at the reasons for the other two, but the bridge photo probably raised the question of selective editing. Those questions are often difficult to resolve without an original, and so often result in a proof request.
For the third photo, we've had quite a few incidences of rainbows being rendered into images. This is probably why proof was requested on that entry.

Thanks Terry
I don't remember ever requesting self validation on that first one but I could be wrong it was a long time ago.
I think it is great that the system is working but I believe it can be a little impersonal when you don't get told why the DQ was raised. |
