Hi!
My dad is looking to buy a digital camera (First one) any Ideas?
His spending limit is $300-350 range and needs to be easy to use with one hand (had stroke about 10yr's ago)
Any Idea's would be great!

I've been very pleased with the Olympus SP-310 I bought to keep in my purse. Seems to me like it would be pretty easy to use with one hand. It was $280 I think and has a slightly more expensive big brother with more features (megapixels and a flash bracket are those I can remember off the top of my head). What I like about the 310 is that it shoots in RAW (slows down it's write speed quite a bit so I don't use it unless I know I'm going to want it in post, but it's nice to have it available), which is pretty unusual for a small camera like that. It's also got manual, shutter priority and aperture priority modes, which are essential for me and probably good to have if he wants to get creative or learn more advanced stuff.

But really, it probably depends on his skill level (or the skill level he wants to attain) and the sort of features he wants. I would recommend going into a shop and having him try things out, get a feel for the controls and such, perticularly if he's limited in his hand use. Something that's easy for him to manipulate may trump any bells and whistles.

My Dad has been doing photography since he was a teenager (he is 66 now)
but the digital lingo confuses him a little... he loves to do macro photography. The camera needs to be small enough to put in his shirt pocket, that is very important to him! Having alot of manual settings is not too important (a few would be nice) but the prints have to be of good quality.

Well, the SP-310 is 7 megapixels which should be good for fairly large prints. I think the 350 was 8mp. It's been a while, but I learned digital with an Olympus (D-460Z then a C-2100UZ) and I found their menu system, symbology and lingo pretty straightforward (much more so than my mother's Nikon Coolpix) and the manual well written. All 3 Olympuses that I've had have had macro modes that are very easy to access (has it's own button on the first two, and on the 310, which has less buttons since it's smaller, macro and a couple other commonly used things are in a pre-menu that comes up if you hit the menu button once, so you press menu then the down arrow to be in macro). My mother, father and brother now all have A-Series Canon Powershots and like them a lot, so those might be worth checking out also (they're slightly bigger than the SP-310 I believe). If he wants to go really small, I know a bunch of folks whow have digital elphs (Canon) who really like them, though those have less manual control (not much at all really, none that is easily accessed or all that intuitive).
