Hi:
I have been told many times that my pictures are grainy. I was wondering if I could get some advice on neat image.
They have a home and a pro+ version.
Any advice on which one to get?
Thanks!Neat image |

I haven't used that but Noise Ninja works pretty well.
I was messing around with Nikon Capture last night (haven't used it much since I got it) and actually was quite impressed with the noise reduction it does as well. You might want to give that a try first. |

Neat Image is good, and the home version is free, which is good as long as you don't need to batch pictures on a set noise profile.

make that the Demo version, sorry. Like I said, most of your choice depends on your batching needs, and what files/bit levels you want to output.

The free version will only save to jpg, and at a realtively low quality. The paid version with plugin module is the way to go. You can actually NI selected portions of your image within photoshop with this version, and you do not need to go jpg to use it, and you can do it on a separate layer and fade it at will.

Is the plug in module the home, home+, pro or pro+? |

I have both, and I find Noise Ninja to be a little easier and more intuitive to use. They're both great programs. |

Do you use the ninja plug in or the stand alone or does it matter? |

I have the Pro (paid) version of NI for Mac (no xp with NN, sorry). I can say for sure that if you use Photoshop you WANT the plugin, not standalone. Once you bind NI to a hotkey in PS it's pretty darn easy to use. And I find it quite intuitive. It's a 3-click process to get great results. |

I believe both + versions have the plugin and the other two are standalone. If I recall correctly, the main difference between pro and home is support for 16-bit images.

I use the Photoshop Plug-in... it's wonderful to do it right in PS.
