I was looking at some photos around the site today and noticed a few that had been locked from further comments. They did not have excessive or derogatory comments and did not even have the most comments I have seen. So why would a pic have the ability to comment on it locked out?

'Liberty And Justice' by jmsetzler is one easy example to locate...

This is a new feature to prevent further comments on photos that the photographer doesn't want comments on. It's done by request to the SC.

Also, just because you can't see derogatory comments, doesn't mean there haven't been any. We generally hide those that cross the line.

Ok, so it makes sense if the photog requested it. Was just curious about it is all. Hadn't seen it before.

I understand you hide derogatory comments. Didn't really mean it that way, meant it more as the photo was not getting bad comments.

The problem is, it was. This is a new feature created to deal with the problem.

In fact John had the image removed prior to this new functionality being added to the site.
