What does "S.S.C." mean when it appears in the name of a Canon lens?

Example: Canon FD 85mm f/1.2 S.S.C. Aspherical

I know that the FD series are an older line of manual focus lenses. Correct me if I'm wrong but you can get an adapter to fit them onto the EOS EF mount. Focus and aperture setting must be done on the lens but metering will work normally?

Is the "S.S.C." designation the same as the "L" for EF lenses, signifying professional grade quality?

"Around 1973, Canon started a new multi-coating process called SSC or Super-Spectra Coating..." I Googled and found this site description but the site itself wouldn't open.

i've been told it's not worth the effort - mounting FD on an EOS. i have 3 FD lenses - 22mm, 70-300mm, and 35-70mm ( i think ). i just use them on my AL1.
