Not quite. Just checked. Sunrise at 5:28. And with mountains to the east of Cape Town ... it is a bit later before we see the sun. But then, with good clouds you don't need the sun to actually have risen to get good pictures. So .. we will see. And after last night's sunset ... ... maybe we'll be lucky.

Cheers
Tony

As usual, not meeting the challenge is not grounds for DQ. You're on your honor, and at the mercy of the voters.

You have to give them credit for finding ways to cut down the number of entries......!

That makes me wish my camera could zoom. Oh, the amazing things I've watched happen across the courtyard in other people's rooms from my boyfriend's window...

That's sick!!! LOL, I love it... I dunno if voters would much like voyeur shots though.

So Night shots are the order of the day. Lack of natural light shouldn't be a problem.

Well, usually at that point people remember to pull the shade down...

Actually, you have just given me an idea - whether I can be bothered to get up at 4:30AM to capture it though, is another thing!

So let me get this right before I set my alarm to get up at the obsene time of 4am! I'm Australia and it's 9.15pm here, but on this website it's 6.15am this morning. So does the time have to be 4-5am MY time or YOUR time? I'm confused?
12/07/2005 06:19:59 AM · #37
I believe your camera date/time should be set correct to your area. so you should be getting up at 4 - 5 AM YOUR time!?!?
12/07/2005 06:25:27 AM · #38
The challenge is about getting up early. If I said "well it was 4 AM in America when I took this shot" it would be rather unfair. I guess night shots are best here, or shots which somehow show you got up early.

Nowhere in the challenge description does it say that it has to be between 4-5am in your part of the world. I would guess that this is a free study.

Sounds like they need to make it known that there is a special rule on this one

I gotta be in to work at 4:30 am everyday, so luckily that gives me about 10 minutes on my way in to try to grab something.

if the beast grips you, you don't go to bed until 4 anyways...

I'm another night worker, so I have no problem being up at that hour. I just can't imagine what I'd take a picture of. Sleeping cows? Once in awhile my brother falls asleep on the sofa....

The time/date stamp on my camera isn't set right anyway. I don't know how to set it.

I have a question, I shoot with my digital rebel (the original, not the new one) and I went to San Francisco super early to get a nice shot of the sun rising, which I did, but it rose at freaking 7 or so. But, I did get a few shots of the city before 5, a few minutes to be exact. But my picture says that I took it at 9 in the morning. To be exact, the metadata says Date Created: 12/6/2005 at 8:40:14 AM and then it says Date Modified: Today, 4:40:14 AM. When I checked my camera for the date and time, it said 12/7/2005 and the correct time at which I look at it (don't remember when I looked, it was this morning when I got back from SF and looked at my photos. Why does it change the metadata? Will I be disqualified? It's clearly not 8:40 AM in SF.

as club (I think) stated earlier, taking a picture outside of the 4 - 5 window is "not meeting the challenge," which is not a dq'able offense. It is not breaking any rules.

Just make sure the dates for the shot are okay. That is potential dq fodder. ;)
