I went a little nuts in B&H ..
I ordered this:
Canon ET-67 Lens Hood for EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens $39.95
Canon 72C Macrolite Adapter $29.95
Canon MR-14EX TTL Ring Lite Flash (Guide No. 46'/14 m) USA $449.95
Canon Telephoto EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Autofocus Lens Imported $449.95
Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Autofocus Lens Imported $1,139.95
Sub Total $2,109.75
I think this makes a nice addition to my kit, now I only "need" the 600mm L f4 IS :)

I'm telling ya it's a sickness! I added up my reciepts yesterday and realized I've spent about $13,500.00 on camera gear in the last 2 years alone. Some reciepts are missing, so it's actually more than that.
And I want the 600mm f/4.0 lens too. :)
Enjoy your new toys!

Did you use the new "Bill me Later" option? I love that one

is the 24-70 2.8L better than the 24-105 4L IS? It seems to be an interesting trade off - two stops for image stabilization and the extra reach.

No kidding! I am afraid to add mine up but I know that I paid my NAPP membership with the savings in shipping charges. NAPP is a great deal if you buy at B&H. B&H waives all shipping charges (ground).

2.8 to 4 is one stop not 2. I am also debating between the two. My feeling is that if you do a lot of action shots the IS isn't all that helpful and the extra stop is. I don't do a lot of that so I am leaning to the 24-105

The IS will give at least two stops, in my experience three. That means that at 24mm, you could very possibly (depending on your personal "shake factor") get good shots at 1/3 second! Great for night street scenes, and still life, but not so great where live subjects are involved.
My personal take on IS for WA is this... most of my photography in the 24-xx zoom range involves live subjects, so I always want to use 1/50s or faster shutter speed. Since I can easily hand-hold most if not all the range of my 24-70 at this speed, IS gives me little advantage. I don't have the 24-105 to compare, but word on the street is that the 24-70 is optically superior to the 24-105. Supposedly, the 24-70 is a bit sharper over some of the range, but no major difference there. The real difference seems to be that the 24-105 suffers far more from barrel distortion at the wide end (almost absent on the 24-70) and has more vignetting than the 24-70.
All in all, the 24-105 is a fine lens, covering a really useful range with IS in a compact package. It's not really an upgrade, IMO, if you already own the 24-70. I do know that there are folks who are switching, though, and I understand that the 24-105 does fit some folks' photographic needs better.

The 24-105 is not getting the best reveiws so far, or at least not getting rave reviews and wide acceptance. I have seen comments here and there hinting about some issues with it.
13,500? got me beat ;). But then, this year i got my first dSLR and now ahve spent $3000 plus this year, and the year ain't over LOL. AB400 is on the list for january-ish, and i'm still trying to get a 80-200 2.8 or 4L.
and i don't have a 12-24/10-22, or a dedicated macro lens...
or a second body...
or...
My b'day was this week and i got an early gift, a Tamron 24-135 SP, and then of course a 5in1 reflector from b&h.
Free shipping for NAPP'ers...hmm, might be worth joining now.

I was hoping to get the 24-105, but it was out of stock at all the local stores due to Canon recall, so I just ordered the 24-70 instead.
and I went to one of the local stores today and they just received a shipment of 24-105 that had been tested by canon and were ok.
so should I cancel my B&H order before they ship and get the 24-105, or should I stick with my order and get both the 24-70 and the rest of my order ?
the 24-105 cost almost as much here in Iceland as the whole order costs from B&H :)

I'd certainly stick with the 24-70, but that's just my personal opinion. All depends whether the IS and more compact size and increased zoom range of the 24-105 is more important than the speed, DoF control and superior IQ of the 24-70.

just hope my order will arrive before my trip to London and Paris on the 14th :)
if not then I'll just do some wide angle shots wit my 17-40L, as I do not want to carry my 70-200L with me for a 5 day hike :)
