I have a cheap kit from Ebay and about 1/2 the time my lights will all trigger. Now that I am actually getting paid for my work I need to have a more reliable set. So nothing to break the wallet but something good and reliable is really what I am looking for. I would love to hear from people that have a set and what they like about it. Thanks |

2 words: Alien Bees
Okay, a few more words: I got my first Bees a couple of years ago, thought it a great starter set (2 400s), now I've added one 800 and its a great pro-set. Love em love em love em. Mine are hot pink ;)

what about all the extras. Do you recommend kit, other lights working with the set? |

Hot pink? Yucky girl color! :)
Mine are white. This is what I've got so far...
(4) B400 monolights (white)
(2) Medium (35â) Octaboxes
(3) 13-foot heavy duty stands
(3) Boom arm attachments
(1) Backlight stand
(1) Background reflector
(1) 20º Honeycomb grid
(1) LG4X four-channel wired remote
Cost me about $1600 total.
It's part of the almost $14K I've spent in the past 2 years on photo equipment. This is a hobby?

I would recommend at minimum: 1 softbox and 1 bounce umbrella. The Bees work great with other lights, they can be slaved together or you can just slave one and the others will fire when they detect the slaved one flash. They are fully adjustable, so good for different set-ups/effects.

Check out Calumet Photo. They have a great lighting kit for $2000. It has 3 mono lights 3 stands. 1 softbox, 2 umbrellas, and a light link system . Eveything fits in 2 carry cases. It's all marked calumet on the surface but it's all made by Bogen. There stuff is great. |

if I have stands and a boom I would imagine that the bees would fit on those? I just would rather spend my money the lights and accessories. |

They sell a different set now that looks a little nicer as far as being able to change the settings but it was prophotolighting on Ebay. I probably wouldn't recommend it for shooting children. The time to charge is so long. |

super glue works wonders on keeping kids still and the look on their faces when they try to get up is pricelss.
