I think the membership idea is interesting, I'd do it.

But what about:

1. Selling merchandise? T-Shirts, Bags, Coffee Mugs, Pens, etc. with your logo - maybe even offer a DPChallenge credit card or cell phone.

2. Selling merchandise in conjunction with the photographers. You could set it up so that you could sell merchandise with favorite photos from the Challenges, splitting the proceeds with the photographer. This is where the membership starts to make more sense. You can do this with t-shirts, coffee mugs, and cell phone covers.

3. Have a commercial challenge with a prize - you could charge to enter that specific challenge, but people could hone their skills in the free and member challenges.

4. Setup a spot where members can critique other people's photos and then charge to get to that spot.

5. Have a site dedicated to porno challenges and then charge ... :-)

6. Charge me for making the last suggestion :-p

7. Get corporate company sponsors and then have a challenge based on that company as a marketing/PR event to help promote the company. You might even be able to get a "prize" from the company for the challenge.

8. Hook up with several digital camera makers and stores and promote them through the site giving a nice discount to us users. I noticed that several people have bought cameras because of this site.

9. Rob a bank and continue to provide DPChallenge free of charge.

10. Win the lottery :-) and hire someone to administer the site.
