Here's a different take on it.

Contrast masking, with bright areas set to linear dodge (instead of burn or multiply, which would be more normal) and shadow areas at "scrteen" mode and faded to only 20%. Rotated image to square the verticals. Added 400 pixels of white sky. Laid a gradient sampled for color from the building into the sky. Dodged midtones in darker areas of building a little bit. Resize, USM, border.

Here's another try at it.

Basically, gaussian blur to everything but the house (used a gradient mask to limit the effect in the foreground/middle ground). Burn layer 15%, dodge layer 40% (plus some additional spot dodging). Ran a little sharpening on the house itself, and a small curves adjustment.

Two of my personal interpretations:

And here's the grainy one with the sky still grainy (mixed on whether that's good or not):

One of the things I did in all of these was to dodge and burn (using the paint with light II action approach) to darken the trees, to make the barn stand out. I think it blends too much with the background.

Then I tried to further isolate the background using dry brush to "deemphasize" the tree details, and history brush to remove the effect from the barn.

Lastly, I used grain and a sepia effect.
