I'm so excited! Got some new lenses this week! This was taken with the canon 60mm macro lens. I wanted to show you how sharp it is. This was one of the first pics I took with it. I was just messing around with it inside of the house, no special lights, etc.

Thanks! :) I like both shots for different reasons. My brother thought she looked a little sad. If so, it's probably because she was thinking, "oh no! Mom has her camera out again!" lol!

Congrats on the new lenses! I recently got the EF-S 60 myself. It is sharp alright. I really like this lense a lot. Really glad I got it.

If you could only have one of them, which lens would you choose, now that you've had time to "play" with both?

I'm trying to get my Christmas Wish List together and I don't want anyone to go into financial ruin to make me happy!

Hmm, I'm really not sure yet. I've only had a chance to play with the 60mm a little bit one afternoon and then I took the 85mm with me (along with my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8mm) that night to my daughter's swimmeet. The 85mm did really well at that too since I was able to be close to the pool. Right now I really love both of them. I haven't really had time to see what all each of them can do. Sorry I'm not much help yet.
Course, if you buy both of them, you can get double the rebate on them since you're buying two! :)

Selecting between a macro lens and a short telephoto lens depends on what you want to do with it. For portrait work, the 85mm would be excellent. But the 60mm macro lens lets you get really close to your subject and still obtain sharp focus.

I am very pleased with the 50mm macro I just got. It's similar to the 60mm macro being discussed here. Here's an example:

Something else that might be useful: You can view photos on this site taken with particular lenses; choose Lenses from the Equipment menu. Here's a couple of direct links:

Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM

I used this a lot when I was trying to decide on which lenses I wanted to get next. It's very helpful.

I like that picture!!! Olympus just does not have the wide selection of lenses that Nikon and Canon do. I have some close-up filters that I use.
