I have read review after review after review and I still donĂ¢€™t know what to do. I am going to acquire a new lens. All I have is the kit lens that came with the Rebel XT, a really old Tamron 70-300mm that I got back with my old Rebel film camera, and a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II (which is great).
I keep hearing that the kit lens is not so hot and was thinking of a replacement for that however, I read a review on that lens that said it was a good lens. So without knowing if what I have is good or bad and not knowing how to interpret all of these different reviews, I need your help.
I have no cash cow out in the pasture so I was thinking about the one of the following:
Tamron 24-135mm f/3.5-5.6 AD Aspherical (IF) Macro
Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF)
Tonkina 24-200mm AT-X 24222 AF
Canon 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM
I would like to begin a migration to better lenses so there is some overlap in this list regarding the junk that I have, and that is okay. If however, I should think two steps ahead on this new purchase and look to replace that 70-300 next that would be cleaver.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) is the lens that most people are extremly happy with.
I really havent heard anything bad aboud it, allthough the Canon 24-70mm F2.8L is considered to be better then it still is more then twise as expensive.
I am replacing the kit lens after a few days, cant wait to get my 24-70mm F2.8L :P
Bottom line, if you cant afford the Canon, get the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF)

AF is very fast, optics are sharp. clean macro abilities and the f/2.8 is awesome in low-light! |

IF you are going to get a lens, then I'd get the Tamron 28-75 out of the choices you listed.
However, how are you enjoying the kit and the Tamron 70-300? If you are happy with it and learning about photography, then why don't you hold off on any lenses till you feel that you've outgrown them? That way you can get a lens that fits your specific needs instead of just buying a lens that others are telling you to get.

| I agree, of the lenses the tamron 28-75 is the best of the bunch. If you get it enjoy!!! |
