After reading alot of comments, and looking at peoples work, I decided to buy the Canon 10-22mm over the 17-40L I love the perspective, and I can't wait to get out and start shooting with it :) (although damn cold) |

Yeah. What's the use of announcing but not posting anything?

Good example of just how free this lens is of straight-line distortion :-) Enjoy!

That lens is on my Christmas list. I have the 17-40 as well and it's fantastic, but there are a few select places a wider angle lens would be beeeautiful to have!
Edit: Congrats on your purchase and I hope to see some additional samples!

Is there a Nikon equivalent to this? Closest I've seen is a 14mm prime. Those photos that you posted are seriously tempting. |

i too recently (yesterday) received my 10-22mm, and i mean that picture says its all, I can't wait til it warms up enough for me to go play outside with mine.I also purchased a UV filter for it, can't wait to test them both out! |

there's a nikon 12-24 mm f4 I believe. since nikon's crop isn't quite as much as canon's (1.5 to 1.6) it rings in at a very similar focal length. Although nikon makes the 10.5 mm fisheye which is my favorite lens! you can't get wider than that.
also there are sigma, tamron and tokina lenses all starting at 10 11 or 12 mm.
my friend has the the nikon 14 mm on the d70 or d100 whatever and its pretty wide, but still could be wider, I wouldn't have spent the $$ on that lens unless I had a film body that's for sure. |

Great stuff :-) I get my 10-22 lens for Christmas. It is nice to see what kind of angles can get on it in a typical room.
I am from edmonton so I know about cold and snow. |

My wish list glass-wise is very small & realistic, and the 10-22mm is one that won't be substituted for a lesser-quality brand or model.
Hey Santa - you did see that on my list - right? Right? |

Gotta love alberta weather, we've been lucky sofar though so can't complain. So what are the nice places in Ed to take pictures? I'll be up there Dec. 9 maybe 10th for work, so of course the camera is comin.
I should retake that picture with better lighting, because you can actually see all 4 walls, floor and ceiling... something I'm not use to seeing in the viewfinder. |

Next week we're having a heat wave. It's going up to +1C. It's been around -15 for the past week.

Don't be complaining too loudly, the last week of -15 was preceeded by a long stretch of ridiculously warm (for November) 15+ degrees weather.
But the point is valid, it's a bit chilly out there for comfortable photography at the moment. |

Yes, we hit +18C one day. If you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes, it'll change.

Not sure about your Santa but I know mine is going to disappoint cause I ain't going to be unwrapping the tops 2 items on my lens list this year (24-105 & 10-22). [I say "lens list" cause it's too hard to have a single list when several lists work better - Who says an old dog cannot learn new tricks from the kids :-) |

Ahh, I'm just about to get my Tamron 28-75 and now you making me dream for a proper wide angle (most probably Tokina 12-24 in my case). Well.. :) |

Places in Edmonton for pictures? Well lots depending on what you like to take pictures off. Wild-life (Wood buffalo national park) is a short drive, there is the local zoo but tiny compared to most and winter a lot of the animals are not viewable by the public.
We have the gardens under glass.
Fort Edmonton I believe is closed except for special events.
There are various historical/public buildings.
Edmonton is a pretty big (by canadian standards city) so lots of inside events.
Doh!!! I almost forgot West Edmonton Mall, |

That's actually Elk Island. Wood Buffalo is somewhere else (near the NWT border).
;o)

Always classic photo opportunities at the legislature. I'm a sucker for the reflecting pools during the summer but there's still plenty of beauty around there during the winter. I seem to remember a nice set of grounds in behind the building.
Good opportunities for some bridge shots (I'm a train nut so I love to watch at the High Level bridge).
As was already said, the gardens are beautiful (inside and out).
If you're willing to travel a bit, the Reynolds museum in Wetaskiwin has some beautiful old vehicles inside and out. |
