1) Has anyone used the Sigma 100-300 f4? Any comments on build, sharpness, etc would be great.
2)I'm trying to decide between the tamron and sigma 180 f3.5 macro lens. Wondering about sharpness, build, noise, af speed, and bokeh. They're the same price so I need some comparisions from owners. The sigma does have nine blades. I hear the larger the number of blades the better the highlights in the oof areas. Rounder or something. Not sure how true this is but I recently read it somewhere.

PopPhoto has an online review of the Sigma 100-300.

they also have the Tamron tested here.

They've tested the Sigma 150mm but it's not online.
If I remember correctly, more blades usually makes for a rounder/smoother bokeh.

It's very true. 9 is great. 7 is so-so. 5 is weak. The new Canon EF-S lenses use a completely circular, electromagnetic diaphragm, and their bokeh is very sweet.

It's called an EMD, and I think it's finding its way into other new canon lenses.

Hmm... Turns out the EMD is just an alternative, more precise, to a completely mechanical linkage. It can, and does, control diaphragms with fewer blades, a normnal number of baldes. But apparently the 60mm does have a circular diaphragm. I donno... Anyway it does have circular bokeh, I know that much.
