Greetings all,
Ok, I've been working on this old photo I'm trying to repair / restore, as you can see its heavily damaged, cuts, bubbles, stains, etc but so far I'm having good luck with it, except for the babies hair, any ideas on what to do with it??
(original photo approx 3" x 3", scanned at i believe 1200dpi, posted to dpc in jpg)

I don't know which software you are using, but I tried doing it in Photoshop and it looked good. I just used the clone tool at a very low opacity to create hair where it had been totally destroyed, and then used the healing brush to blend it in. Keep the brush size small both times.
There might be better ways to do it. I am kinda busy so don't have time to experiment right now. I am sure someone will come along soon to help you. Take care. |

That's a tough one but at that size, there couldn't have been a whole lot of detail in the hair to begin with. Maybe a gaussian blur on the head above the hair line once you have it cleaned up some. It doesn't look like the little one had a whole lot of hair, so that may work fine.

Question:
Is this just an excercise to see if you can and learn how, or is this a sentimental picture that you really want fixed?
It's very repairable, even with just what is here, just tedious and all slow, manual editing.

Spent about an hour on this
(and a couple small areas not shown)
& determined this will be a very lengthy
process, possibly 30 hrs or more.

Greetings,
Thanks for the responses, I'm using PS CS2, its both sentimental (to my wife) and a learning exercise for myself. BradP, nice work, looks very close to where I am. The hair is still original, everything I do to it, makes it look like either a toupee, or worse.
Original My Version
Any comments or suggestions?

I wish i knew enough to help you Mike. In your version the hair is a touch too bright. Maybe toning it down a touch would make it better :) |
