Hi, i recently upgraded fom a fuji finepix s7000 to a canon rebel xt.
i have the 18-55 that came with the camera, and i bought a canon 50mm f/1.8, and the canon 75-300 III.
so far these lenses have left me with a bad taste in my mouth, out of the three, the only one with decent optics is the 50mm.
so i went a bit further and bought the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens. I\'m pretty happy with it.
my question is, what lens can i get for a decent price (500 to 700 bucks) that\'ll give me joy up to 200mm or so?
I mostly shoot landscape and ocean scenes with a few evening sunset shots mixed in. |

Canon 70-200mm f/4L is exceptionally good optics at under $600.00. It's optically the equal of the much pricier 70-200mm f/2.8L, but a stop slower. It's one of the best zooms on the market, optically, and a bargain at the price.

I meant shots that he thought made that lens disappointing.

You may want to consider the new Canon 70-300IS, looking at preliminary MTF charts on Photozone, it's very sharp.

I'm not in the Caon 70-200 f4 club. If you look at photozone's MTF charts, the 70-200 f2.8 is much sharper than the f4 version. As a matter of fact, the 70-300IS is sharper than the 70-200 at 70 and at 200mm.

Check back on Photozone.de, they'll have the review of the 70-300IS soon.
