This article talks about a couple of new digital projectors. The second one described (Pocket Projector) has some fascinating features, including using LCD instead of a bulb for light. These are both 'low res' and leave much to be desired for serious image display, but they still seem to be a breakthrough both in cost and, perhaps, technology.

I saw something on TV about one of these for kids - $300. Looked kind of dim, but the ad made a big deal hat it could project on the ceiling so kids could use it to play video games while lying in bed/on the floor. I did not get eth name of the item or company.
