Read this :

Christie's set a new world record price for a camera in their January 2001 sale when a prototype Phantom photographic outfit sold for £146,750 with commission, breaking the previous record, also held by Christie's at £55,750 set in 1995.

Speaking real-world cameras, try the Cambo Wide DS digital cam for $35,000?

My brother takes pictures using the camera on one of these--does that count? ;-) Not sure how much they cost.

(Some pictures he took using a different camera).

:) Yes, that is a nice tripod! Still, the camera holds it's own I think. ;-) ("The U-2 B camera has a 36-inch focal length and can resolve features as small as .75 meters (2.5 feet) from an altitude of 19.5 kilometers (65,000 feet).")

The cameras used in the SR-71 Blackbird were a significant step forward from what was used in the U-2. Since the U-2's are still flying and the SR-71's are not, maybe the cameras in the U-2's are ahead now.

The Hasselblad H2D is not the most expensive but at $27000 you would want it to be good
