Check out this gull. Sun was setting on the lake. Sun was below the horizon behind me. The glow is a high cloud in the background. Gull lit with SB800 flash.

Totally bizarre! Looks like a taxidermy gull in a diorama... It doesn't look "real" at all. Strange effect, dude.

This shot is alsmost directly out of the cam...very very little PS.

I think the fill-flash and extreme sharpness contribute to this effect.

I have some similar shots of a duck I took recently, but mine was stuffed -- I have to find a nice sky to drop into the BG : )

Do you have a strong flash? That could cause the effect bear was referring to...

I know it is a STRANGE looking shot. I was shocked when I got home. I can post the unedited one if you like! However, like I said, very little PS...USM, Crop...that's about it.

I have one of those flash-filled shots that made a bird look fake to. Almost like it's pasted in or something.

I'm well aware of this :-) See also my comment on the actual image. I was just remarking to the strange, otherworldly quality of it.
