I sold my D70 today and took this test image to show my pal how to use a DSLR and it's various perks. The background isn't too interesting...I know, but does this crop have any potential...in your eyes? Comments....please...please...please...

Robert-This was an AF center to a Manual twist based on that advice from the other thread. (sounds like a dance move)

I would agree with you about the background, but I do like the composition in the first shot. Its a good idea to tuck away for the right time.

or kwanza, hannuka, whatever. It's all essentially the same: gift giving holiday of choice in December.
It's cheaper than the 5d for sure.
oh yeah, the portrait.
I like the second better than the first. without a background (either negative spoace or of high interest) there seems to be no point in having the subject way in the bottom corner. There doesn't seem to be enough bokeh to make the bockground fuzzy enough to keep it from distracting you. You could alter in PP though I guess.
edit- but in the second shot the person in the background is also distracting to me, so whaddaya gonna do? my 2 cents.
