I have this weird purple spot on my 15 minute ezposures. Does any one know what this would be from? Could it be my lens, or my camera?
thanks. |

Heat buildup on the sensor, I believe. I've read about this. Proximity to a part of the workings of the cam that generates heat during exposure.

Obviously, it's the glow from the propulsion system on an alien spacecraft.
If you don't remember seeing it, it's because the aliens erased that part of your memory after they beamed you up to their ship for the "probe".

I had the same thing happen. It is a hot spot or something on you sensor. It is not defective, it happens to all when you do time exposure. Search the forums or google. There is a way in post processing to get rid of it.
Check the "astrophotography" gallery here a DPC and you will likely see a blurb about this in the processing steps of one of the photos.
EDIT: Check out this photo [/quote]
It talks about "dark frame subtraction"...that's your key.
Good Luck.

Yep, sensor heating. Each model of DSLR has a different pattern, and some models have it worse than others. As posted, it can be dealt with. Subtracting a dark frame should help. If you shoot RAW, remember that if the dark frame is to match, it needs to be converted using the exact same settings as the image.
