Below is my entry for the Garbage challenge. The way the score has fluctuated is puzzeling to me. After 90 votes early wednesday morning, I was at 5.9. Most of these votes came from asia and europe I would guess. Before noon wednesday my score dropped to 5.2 in less than 40 votes. That would roughly be in line with the americas commoing online. My score recovered slightly during the rest of the week.
Now, do you think I might have offended people with my association of fast food and garbage? Am I making this all up? For the record, I ated at this very BK after taking the shot :).
I am usually not complaining about my score in the open, but I am rumaging this theory in my head for the last week.
I am proud of this shot because I passed in front of that place for years and when the challenge was announced, I saw this shot in my head and it turned out exactly has I wanted. And with all the positive comments I received, I thought it would do better.
Maybe I had my expectations too high?
Thanks

I don't think you offended anyone. The final score seems to be in line.
What may have helped is to bring out more detail in the line of trash bins. The ones at the back are a little dark.
Now, if it had been MacDonalds... I digress.
Keep shooting.

i found the image quite amusing.
i find your theory that only asias and europeans vote until wednesday and gave you a high score and what the rest of the western world waited until thursday to vote and your score plummeted kind of silly though.
A lot of people go through on thier first swipe and sort thir images into "good" (6) and bad (4). Then they come back closer to the end of challenge and give their images thier final placement. This is a more plausible explination than your implied "americans are fatarses and got pissed off that i made fun of thier lunch" theory. |

I know about the concept of multi-pass voting; I even used it myself. However, I find it quite funny that the major score change happened in the first 12 hours period. In fact, when I waked up at 6:45 am, the score was 5.9. When I got to work at 8 am, I was down at 5.3 already. Then it took all week to recover a small 0.3 point.
I am sure some in the americas (and I am not talking only of the USA) votes during the night. But at 6 am, I guess most of us are asleep of too busy going off to work for voting an entire challenge. That's why I am assuming most of the votes from early wednesday came from places where peoples are mostly at work or even back from it.
I am most probably wrong, but I don't think it's that silly. |
