Ok im ordering it all today I think..

Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS (for sports)
Canon 10-22mm (for landscapes)
77mm Hoya Polarizer
420EX Speedlite

anything else I'm missin?

anything cheaper then getting the 70-200mm for night time highschool sports?

You should probably get a ultra thin polariser, as the 10-22 is a really wide lens.

The 70-200 f2.8 (non IS) is obviously the cheaper option, If your using a tripod theres probably little difference between the two. Ive never used an IS though so i dont know how good the IS technology is.

BTW Your missing my presents

hahaha..

is there a smaller telephoto lense that will perform for night time sports as well? and how do I know if its an ultra thin polarizer?

check here for the 10-22mm lens. i bought one myself ;D

All the smaller and lighter telelenses are non 'L' and generally slower, so not as good in low light. I believe all the Sigma and Tamron are huge as well. Thats one reason why im weary to buy the 70-200 f/4.

Have you considered upgrading to the 20D? as its more suited to low light sports photography.

B+W and Hoya have different ranges of filters Standard, multicoated thin etc. Check out this website for an idea of prices etc, note the 77mm super multicoated ultrathin extremely long name CPL is $146

50 mm 1.8 I've heard is a great portrait lens and is dirt cheap.

The 10-22 has a pretty good built in polarizing coat, I do notice a difference when I shoot the same scene with this lens and a differnt one, the sky looks bluer.

any other filters I might need??
11/24/2005 02:02:22 PM · #12
do without the polarizer for the 10-22mm... grab a UV filter instead (see Bear's response in my thread I posted above).

i suggest getting a lumisphere or something for your flash and an extra battery.

the 50mm 1.8 is great, the 1.4 is a better if your feeling rich, the 85mm 1.8 is built for portraits and might also satisfy you sports needs.

Shutter release is cheap and effective if you dont already have one, and get the undutchables firmware upgrade(free), I cant believe so many 300D users dont have it.

oh and a good tripod and head and/or a monopod if you're at it... the mino is great for sports because you can lug it around easily and it's not as cumbersome as a tripod...

I second the tripod and head if you don't already have one. Also, if it fits in your budget for roughly $100 more, I would consider the 580ex flash as opposed to the 420ex. Much more control and power to that flash.

yeah but the 580 is more than i need for the 300D
