Got totally pissed off today.

I arrived at work today and my co-worker told me that he had received a call from a woman wanting me to contact her as soon as possible. So, I return the call. Turns out it's a woman I have never met who works in the same building as I do. She starts off telling me that she noticed a ding on her newly purchased Grand Am and tells me that she thinks that I caused it with the door from my company vehicle. She says it happened a few days ago and that she's sure that the ding wasn't there before I parked beside her. Now I'm a bit confused since I don't even remember parking near her car and definitely remember never dinging any car with the company vehicle, at work or anywhere else. I guess she must make a full exterior inspection of her car every time she goes to use it. As if

Anyway, I ask her for a specific date for the door-dinging, but she can't come up with one: "Oh sometime last week". When she realizes that I'm not going to cave in to the accusations or offer to have the damage repaired, she mentions that she's a criminology student at one of the universities in town. WTF? Does she think this is going to influence me by trying to pull some CSI junk? Unlikely. I wanted to tell her off right there and then but I couldn't since she was referring to my work vehicle. Professional decorum and all, you know. Too bad it wasn't a civil matter cuz I would have REALLY given her a piece of my mind. I can insult and play head games with the best of them.

Anyway, she finishes off by telling me that we'll probably see each other at work. Big deal. I informed my supervisor about the situation. If she wants to pursue this further, she can deal with the boss. I won't be wasting any of my precious time dealing with little miss criminology.

I can stand a lot of sh*t and do in my line of work, but being called a liar REALLY pisses me off. In my line of work, you better have a damn good reason and some proof to back things up before accusing people like that. Maybe little miss criminology should pay more attention in class.

Anyway, that's it. Just had to get this off my chest.

Sure thing. I'll be at you place in roughly, oh, 16 hours. Just kidding. I 'll take you up on that beer if I'm ever out your way.

Stella Artois?? That sounds like the name of some bitchy, Dartmouth criminology student. ;-)

I do this to all my cars and truck. Its called a circle check. I look for new damage (if any) check the tires, glass and lights just to see if anything has been broken or damaged. If you do this every day you'll know your cars well enough that if a stone chips it on the road you'll know where it happened. If there was damage to one of my cars I'd just check the security tapes to see what happened.

I'm not siding with her by any means just thought it was odd when you mentioned it.

Yah... My dad was a pilot/aeronautical engineer. When he was teaching me to drive, he insisted that I make a "pre-flight inspection" before getting in the car, every time. It's a habit that persists to this day.

Of course, his concern was flat tires and open doors, mainly, and nowadays tires rarely go flat and onboard computers tell us our doors are ajar, but I still habitually preflight the car before setting out :-)

You should have her do some research on the statutes relating to extortion.

I had a damaged tire which went flat in the parking lot a couple of months ago ... : )
