I asked earlier for advice on light placement and got a little feedback. I went to the studio and experimented and this is what I came up with. Excuse the model. (The only volunteer I could find)

Thoughts, suggestions and comments appreciated.

I'd flip the power of the two lights exactly opposite - I don't like the darker eye facing more towards the camera - I think if you're going for a straight studio portrait look that you should have the camera-right side of the frame more lit.

Actually the way he did it is a classic Rembrant lighting technique.

I left a comment. I like both but the side facing is my favorite.

I like the first one better.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Like I said, it's my first serious attempt at portraiture. Not as easy as one would think when space is limited and you have to be the photographer AND the model. The general impression I get from all of you is that it is a good start. Am I right? like everything else, with practice it will improve.

Yes. The second one looks like your typical executive type portrait. I think a little fill flash to light the eyes a bit and give a catch-light would help more too.
