Has anyone been able to see a review or get their hands on Nikon's new 18-200mm lens that will be released in December? It's the 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom-Nikkor. Just wondered if it's worth the money. Not a bad price at $699 but is it really worth it?

Hmmm..depends on what you want.

If a lite..all purpose walk-around lens is your style I would say you wont find much else that does what this lens does.

But..if you are one of the people who believe that the rule of 3x for zooms should never be broken then this lens might be trouble.

The 3x rule for zooms basically means that if a zoom lens ratio is greater than 3x, the optics will have a hard time at the far ends..with chromatic aberation, softness and light fall-off being the main culprits.

So..depends I guess what you are willing to trade for :-/
